Soakwells Upvc

UPVC

As a general rule of thumb a upvc soakwell cannot be used on the majority of houses, especially new developments, as it doesn't meet with the requirements of many Shires, one of the many reasons for that is it wont hold enough water. Added to that the soakwells are NOT trafficable, so if a bobcat or car was to drive over the area they were located in, the soakwell would be permanently damaged and would cease to work correctly. Saying that upvc soakwells do have their place when installed correctly. We do install them from time to time, more often than not for swimming pool backwashes, where we will generally install four of them in a row, all linked together. This then gives the homeowner 600 litres of capacity to backwash their pool.

The soakwells themselves are made from a reinforced upvc, that will last hundreds of years below ground. Coupled with a soakwell sock fitted over the soakwell, this can be an effective way of containing very small amounts of water, but in no way will cope with the amount of water that falls on the average householders roof.

Many people are under the impression they can install one of these soakwells per downpipe, unfortunately that is completely incorrect.  The average house needs to cater for around 4000 litres of rainwater to be collected by their soakwells, if you used the upvc soakwells to do that you would require 27 of them, as they only hold 150 litres of water each.  For more information, and a guide to the sizes of soakwells your house will require please click here
